BJP Arunachal Pradesh Hosts Waqf Reforms Awareness Event, Advocating Transparency and Accountability

The Waqf Sudhar Janjagaran Abhiyan event, organized by the BJP Arunachal Pradesh at the Chief Minister’s residence, focused on reforms in Waqf property management under the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for strengthening the 1995 Waqf Act, addressing concerns of misuse, mismanagement, and lack of accountability in Waqf properties. He acknowledged that while the Act has limited immediate impact in Arunachal Pradesh, it is crucial for transparency and justice nationwide.
Tayek Goi, convener of the Waqf Sudhar Janjagaran Abhiyan, highlighted data from the Sachar Committee Report (2006) and the Waqf Assets Management System of India (WASMI), alleging that 60% of Waqf properties were illegally occupied under previous administrations. He emphasized the need for transparent governance and equitable use of community assets.
The event saw participation from State BJP president Kaling Moyong, media department co-convener Nima Sangey, Abhiyan member Teli Amita, and representatives from various mosques in the Itanagar Capital Region.
This initiative aims to restore public trust and ensure fair management of Waqf properties.
